The breed requires minimum care as they shed minimally. The eyes should be obscured by hair, which must not be scissor in show hounds, but may be trimmed for pets. The hounds are about 10-12 inches (25-30 cm.) high and weigh about 12-15 pounds (5.5-7 kg.).

This breed originated in Madagascar, and details on how they arrived there are somewhat sketchy; nowadays the hounds are used as pets. The coat of the hound is long and about 4-6.5"; 10.2 to 16.5 cm.
